The Prairie Meadows Break-out Room (located in the University of Iowa John and Mary Pappajohn Education Center) is filled with up and coming as well as established local and regional authors. These presentations, conversation panels and workshops are designed to enlighten and excite festival attendees. Click a name below for more detail on individual presenters. Select authors will be signing their books for 30 minutes after their presentation ends.

Presentation: Tim Bascom
Prairie Meadows Break-out Room
Tim Bascom is author of the memoir Running to the Fire, about coming of age as the son of missionaries in Ethiopia during a Marxist Revolution. Bascom, who received his MFA from the University of Iowa, is currently Director of Creative Writing at Waldorf College.

Jolene Philo is a speaker, blogger, and author of five books about parenting children with special needs and caregiving. Her most recent work, Does My Child Have PTSD: What to Do When Your Child Is Hurting from the Inside Out was published by Familius in October of 2015.

Presentation: Barbara Lounsberry

Barbara Lounsberry was born and raised in Iowa and just retired as a Professor of English at the University of Northern Iowa. Her latest book is called Becoming Virginia Woolf.  It traces how Virginia Woolf became the extraordinary writer and thinker we know through the use of diaries.

Marc Hansen and Tom Witosky are the co-authors of the book Equal Before the Law: How Iowa Americans to Marriage Equality.  Both were reporters for the Des Moines Register, and have a combined 50 years of experience in the journalism field.
